Students at St. Agnes Catholic School have many opportunities to participate in a full and engaging spiritual life on campus. They include:

All School Mass

Grades from Kindergarten to 8th grade attend Mass once a week, as well as all Holy Days of Obligation. Preschoolers attend the All School Mass monthly.

Students serve as lectors and altar servers during all school Masses.

Legion of Mary

The Legion of Mary is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church, with well over 3 million active members in almost every country of the world. The main purpose of the Legion of Mary is to give glory to God through the sanctification of its members.

The Legion of Mary meets weekly after school to educate children about Jesus, the Virgin Mary, saints, and martyrs. Meetings are open to students from first to eighth grade.

Annually, the Legion of Mary hosts a Living Rosary and play in May for the entire school to participate in and attend.

Sacramental Preparation

Students who are in second grade prepare during the school year for First Reconciliation. Students who are in third grade prepare for both First Eucharist and Confirmation.

Preparation is done during the school day, with additional family meetings to discuss sacramental preparation expectations for home and distribution of materials.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Students at various grade levels (Preschool - 3rd) receive additional religious education and formation through Catechesis of the Good Shepherd during the school day by attending Atrium weekly.

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is based on the conviction that God and the child are in relationship. The child has a deep need to experience God and a special capacity to enjoy the presence of God. The task of the adult is to help the child live fully the encounter with God.

The Atrium is a specially prepared environment which nurtures the child's need to know, love, and serve God. Beautiful materials are provided to help the child reflect upon the signs and symbols of our Faith and God's Words to us - The Holy Bible.

Originating in 1954 in Rome, Italy, it was inspired by the Montessori principles of education.

Retreats

Students who are preparing for First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and/or Confirmation will attend a school day retreat of prayer, spiritual reflection, and community. Retreats are held shortly before the date of receiving the Sacrament.

Eighth grade students experience an end of the year spiritual retreat as closure to their time at St. Agnes and preparation for their ongoing journey as Catholic young women and men entering high school.

The Angelus

The Angelus is recited daily at noontime, with all students expected to participate with vocal prayer or quiet, still reflection.

Stations of the Cross/ Live Stations

During Lent the whole school attends the Stations of the Cross every Friday.

Eighth grade students re-enact a Live Stations of the Cross during the Lenten season.

Advent/Christmas Program

Students take part in special Advent readings and reflections during the Advent season.

All students participate in an annual Christmas program. The program includes religious singing and stories, with different variations year to year.

All Saints Day

Kindergartners celebrate All Saints Day by coming to Mass dressed as the saint they studied.

May Crowning

During the Month of May -- a month both named for and dedicated to Mary -- Catholics have long honored her by placing a crown on her image. The eighth grade class has the honor of crowning Mary during an all school ceremony.
